Violence against people with mental disabilities

Written Material

Sobsey outlines some major factors that interact with each other to influence the risk of abuse of people with disability. These include family factors such as lack of support networks and negative prognoses from doctors, to societal attitudes which work to add vulnerability to already vulnerable people (see also SRV theory). What is important about Sobsey's article is that he argues that community inclusion is perhaps the most powerful force against such vulnerability. Keyword: Ethics
