The role of disability in social and educational reform

Written Material

This author argues that there are serious problems with the modern public education system (western style) and that reform calls for revolutionary cultural change: not only within the educational system but within the context of society as a whole. Educational settings are one of the best sites for fostering societal transformation and a fundamental attitudinal change. Thus, those in the inclusive education movement should take account of this - the concepts of inclusion and a reconceptualisation of disability can significantly impact the reconceptualisation of education and thus society. NB. This can be read in conjunction with File No.'s 10583, 10589 and 10606. Keywords: Education, School age
