In this article, Ric Thompson explains why, when it comes to asking members of the community to stand alongside and with individuals with a disability and their families we enter a period of silence and apprehension. He believes that this happens because the pursuit of community inclusion seems to be within the domain of the human service industry rather than the society. He challenges this commonly accepted belief and explains why asking the community is, in fact, very important. He also gives tips on how to ask for the involvement of the community and explains how inclusion can be achieved this way.
