Social value

Written Material

This is a brief and easy to read summary of social role valorisation. The article moves through three stages. The first is a definition of 'social value' - when the characteristics identified in someone else are judged to be important, useful and lead to acceptance. For people who have a disability, most of the characteristics they come to be identified by are judged negatively. Thus the challenge for family and friends is to work towards the people they know becoming accepted as valued individuals. This leads to the third stage of the article, which details ways people can do this. Keyword: Social Role Valorisation
