Social Devaluation and Special Education

Book

This is an excellent book which will be of great interest to all who are interested in the education of children with special needs. Hall argues that children with disabilities do not require a special place to go to school instead, it is their needs which are special. These needs are best met in the regular classroom. He asks the reader to look beyond the process of schooling to the purpose of schooling as a 'learning community'. Chapters covered in the book include 'Rethinking Special Education', 'The Meaning of Integration', 'Service Evaluation in Special Education', and 'Securing an Inclusive Placement'. Hall makes special reference to the principle of normalisation/SRV and the social model. Keywords: Education, School age, Social Role Valorisation
