In this paper on 'A Fresh Perspective on Inclusive Living' presented to NCID's 1993 Conference, Hailstone describes her experiences of raising a child with a disability. An awareness of the potential risk for her daughter to have a restricted life increased with the recognition that she herself treated her daughter differently to her other children. A breakthrough in thinking came with the understanding that concern for her daughter's security was not an issue of "bricks and mortar" but of the quality of her daughter's relationships and friendships.
