Job Path: Shifting the Focus Beyond Just Work

Written Material

This is an excellent article describing the work of Job Path, an agency whose goal is to create integrated supported employment opportunities for people with severe developmental disabilities. Job Path has created several projects, including one which assists people to leave day treatment centres and another for students graduating from special education programs. The article identifies several keys to what makes the program work: discovering people's interests, teamwork, flexibility, positive attitudes to problems through problem-solving, collaboration with policy makers and other agencies, and a willingness to work closely with families.
