Housing and People with Disability

Book

"People with disability face the same housing issues as the rest of the community - scarcity of private rental and public housing accommodation....high rentals..etc. But people with disability also face other issues arising from their extra needs, from others' attitudes to disability, from their need for long-term and secure housing.....These issues have meant that for too many people with disability, a home in the community comes only after they or their families or advocates have struggled to create that home." (p.1). This booklet therefore details ways in which people can access 'ordinary' ways and processes of finding a home, other types of accommodation such as group homes, hostels and boarding houses (the author analyses why these are not ideal), and people's legal rights within these different types. The booklet is written for people with disabilities. Keywords: Accommodation, Legal
