Developing an Inclusive School Community

Written Material

This paper aims to discuss factors that contribute to the development of an inclusive school community. Most effort is directed at the individual school level; however recognition is given to statewide factors that can contribute to or thwart efforts to develop an inclusive school community. This is discussed in terms of the need for political leadership to develop a vision and change the existing policy, funding and the pre-service preparation of teachers. Inclusion at the individual school level is also discussed with some reference to literature. Keywords: Education, School Age
