A Bed in a House is not a Home

Written Material

QPPD's policy embraces the right of all adults with disabilities to be able to live and be supported in a home that reflects their individual wants and needs. There are some definite 'essentials' to what constitutes a 'good' and appropriate home life: for example, finding a home is about having choices, a good home life embraces a sense of security and is not isolated from the community. After elaborating on these essentials, the policy details the appropriate supports that are required in order that a good home life becomes a reality for all. It is interesting to compare this with the situations that most adults with disabilities (especially those with high support needs) find themselves in. Also a good article for professionals and agencies (in that it gives agencies a new but clear role in terms of support) and for parents wanting to make changes. Keyword: Accommodation
