Universal design: realism or idealism?

Written Material

The notion of 'barrier-free' design has been around since the 1970's; however, physical environment is still far from being fully accessible. In this article, Clark discusses the options for achieving an environment that is accessible to all. He argues that, rather than rely on regulation, we should be focussing on universal design. He outlines seven principles (applicable to both environment and products) which highlight the benefits of universal design. Keyword: Access
