The sterilisation of women who have an intellectual disability

Written Material

This paper discusses the practice of sterilisation on women who have an intellectual disability for reasons which would not normally be considered for women without a disability. Many women with disabilities have undergone sterilisation without any knowledge or understanding of the procedures. The paper looks at some of the reasons for and against these practices, and at some least restrictive options. Keywords: Women, Health
