The Cultural Context of Abuse

Written Material

In this editorial, Uditsky argues that the abuse of people with disability cannot be divorced from the violent nature of our culture in general. Because violence is so keenly embedded in our culture there is no singular, linear or overarching strategy to 'solve' it. Rather social change requires an active and struggling commitment on every level of society - individual, family and the community - a commitment to inclusion. It is only through loving and respectful relationships that people will be valued and protected. Keyword: Ethics
