Supported Employment: It's More than Just a Job

Video

This video is about 7 adults with severe disabilities. They have all moved from a segregated day programme to supported employment in a variety of jobs in the community. The video shows how people who have significant disabilities can take advantage of, and use, natural community supports. Individual outcomes are highlighted and benefits are also seen in terms of meaningful social integration. Supported employment is defined and important elements of successful supported employment are shown, together with interviews with employers, co-workers and family members. Parents express fears, reluctance, expectations and concerns for the future, together with their delight at seeing their son or daughter's personal growth when given the opportunity to become more a part of their community. Running time: 30 mins. Keyword: Employment
