Steps for Setting Up a Community Group

Book

This is a great starting point for parents/families wanting to start a group in their local area. Basically, it asks a lot of questions, the answers to which will shape the form and direction of the group. For example, does the group want to become an advocacy group or does it want to provide a service perceived to be missing in their community? At the same time, it takes a developmental approach to groups - they are not static entities, they grow and change! There are some great quotes too, and other organisations to contact (although phone numbers and addresses are not up to date). This would be a good resource to use with Family Advocacy's kit, "Step by Step." Keyword: Community development
