One Day at a Time

Written Material

This is the story of how Ray Browning, a man with high support needs, moved out of the nursing home where he had lived for 14 years, to a place of his own. It took more than two years for Ray to go from planning his move to his first lease on an apartment. His motto for these years was "We'll get there, but we have to take it one day at a time". Ray didn't wait for the system to change, he worked to change it. This article documents why Ray wanted his own place and some of the strategies he and his allies used to achieve it.
