Liberation! - Three reports from disabled activists in Lebanon, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe

Written Material

These brief but graphic accounts give the reader a vivid impression of the experience of living with a disability in a society that is in political turmoil. One writer makes the cogent statement that people with disabilities must be involved in other issues besides disability ones and in particular should be against war since war creates disabilities. Another describes self help in the form of making wheelchairs which are superior and cheaper than the imported ones. The third report discusses the two alternatives for people with disabilities - institutionalisation or begging in the streets. Keywords: Self determination, Cross Cultural
