Individual Planning with Adults who have Learning Difficulties: key issues - key sources

Written Material

Greasley argues that individual planning and assessment should actively involve the person with the disability. Rather than emphasising personal inadequacies relating to education and social competencies, it should be about lifestyle issues. He suggests that planning should take place around strategies to increase community presence, choice, competence, respect and community participation. He stresses the need to change the attitudes to self-advocacy of parents, staff and individuals with disabilities. Keywords: Individualisation, Advocacy
