This is an excellent story by an older parent. She talks about what she and her partner went through 20 or more years ago when they first discovered their child had a disability. It was quite different to what happens now. Over the years, however, she discovered that her daughter really enriched her and her family's life. Her daughter has her own dreams, has numerous valued roles in her community, has friends - in short she has the life that most of us take for granted but is not made readily available to people with disabilities.
