Helping parents help themselves

Book

This book is a parent self-help manual, prepared by other parents of children with disabilities who are members of Parent Self Help groups of the Hume region in Victoria. It is written from a parent's perspective and aims to help parents understand their situation and explain the roles of the people who will work with their child. It stresses that parents must take control of the situation and that they are responsible for ensuring the rights of their children are protected. Parents therefore need to learn how the system works and how to get what they want for their child. Keywords: Families
