Confronting the Distortions: Mothers of Children with Down Syndrome and Prenatal Testing

Written Material

This article explores some of the issues presented by prenatal testing which the DSAQ (Down Syndrome Association of Queensland) position statement (an Appendix to this article) seeks to address. It also draws on Lisa Bridle's doctoral research to illustrate how the perspective of mothers of children with Down Syndrome disrupts many of the assumptions which underpin prenatal testing. (Lisa Bridle is the parent of a child who has Down Syndrome). Keyword: Ethics. Searchword: Families
