Caring for Aboriginal People with Disabilities

Written Material

This paper is based on research in progress aimed at determining the most suitable ways of providing support services to aboriginal people with disability. The research has revealed three important factors: firstly, that families are central to the care of people with disability; secondly, that there is great importance attached to social networks; and thirdly, that there is a social distancing by aboriginal consumers from non-aboriginal community and services. Wolstenholme lists service delivery procedures which take into account cultural perspectives and social dynamics. Keyword: Cross cultural
