Binding Ties: The Roles of Adult Siblings of Persons with Mental Retardation

This research paper looks at current relationships and future role expectations of 140 adults with a brother or sister with intellectual disability who is still living in the family home. All adult siblings maintained contact with their brother or sister, with 36% intending to co-reside with him/her in the future; and 64% intending to live apart.,Factors differentiating these groups included gender (of both the sibling and the brother or sister with intellectual disability), mother's health, level of intellectual disability, and frequency of activities shared by the siblings during the past year.
