A literature review of Transition Education Outcomes: The role of the family and occupational therapist in the transition education process

Book

This study is a literature review concerning outcomes of school to community and work transition of adolescents with disabilities, and whether these outcomes lead to a positive and valued role for the individual. The study further reviews the role of family in their member's transition process, as well as occupational therapy literature in the area of vocation and specifically transition. Analysis of sources revealed gaps in both type and focus of research of transition programs. Recommendations include conducting more research into outcomes of positive roles for individuals in transition; setting up a central information resource available to parents to disseminate information of concern in the area of transition and providing parents with skills and support so that they can fulfil the advocacy role.
