Are you looking to create and develop more freely-given relationships in the life of a person with disability? This workshop is for anyone who appreciates that having freely given relationships is an integral part of a good life for everyone. Join us to identify how relationships can begin and grow, and learn about the ways that others may need to become the 'askers' - the inviters - into relationship.

Are you looking to create and develop more freely-given relationships in the life of a person with disability?

People with disability often have a large number of their relationships through human service programs and with their families. While such relationships are important, the hard reality is that many people with disability have few, or even no, freely-given friendships outside of these groups.

To address this reality, this workshop identifies how relationships can begin and grow, and suggests ways that others may need to become the 'askers' - the inviters - into relationship.

This workshop will provide potential inviters with a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the current situation - as we continue to deal with the impact of the pandemic. It will also provide guidance and practice on effectively fulfilling the role of inviter

When is the workshop?

This is a 2-part workshop, being ran online via Zoom.

  1. Tuesday 15th Nov at 9am-12.30pm
  2. Thursday 17th Nov at 9am-12.30pm

Attendees are required to attend both sessions.

About the presenters

Tom Doody is an experienced presenter who has been involved with people with disability for 50-years in a variety of personal, direct service, management, and consultative roles. For many years, his primary work was as coordinator of North Quabbin Citizen Advocacy, an organization exclusively focused on recruiting and supporting freely-given relationships between people with and without disability neighbors. Tom will be joined by Phoebe Goodman, Jack Yates, Nate Johnsom, Kelley Auclair, Becky Morrissy, and Rosey Olbrecht.

Who is the workshop for?

Anyone who appreciates that having freely given relationships is an integral part of a good life for everyone. This includes people with disability, their family members and friends, support workers, managers at all levels, board members of human services, policy makers, funders, and community members.
