Travelling through the Education Maze
A weekend, live in event
This weekend has evolved from our contact with many parents who want to further develop their skills and knowledge of how to achieve an inclusive education for their children with developmental disability. It is for parents who believe that their sons/daughters should be welcomed, supported and taught in the regular classe of their local school, irrespective of the nature and degree of disability.
While there is a nominal fee of $30 per person, Family Advocacy covers costs - except for some meals - for parents from around NSW to attend. We encourage both parents or partners to attend.
Moving Forward
A weekend, live in event
This is a follow-up workshop for people from across NSW who have attended one or more of the following workshops: "Creating Valued Lives", "Inclusive Lives", "Making Change", "Travelling through the Education Maze", or "One of the Kids". It takes people further in identifying strategies which challenge barriers that face people with disability, and touches on skills needed to deal with the political system. It’s a great opportunity to link with other families.
Pathways to an included life
A one day workshop
An included life is the kind of life most people take for granted. It is what we want for all people we love and care about: a ‘good life’, an ordinary life in which there is love, belonging, security, friends and good health. This kind of life, however, has been historically denied to people with developmental disability. This day will involve the use of personal and other stories to paint a picture of what an included life is, and to talk about how change can happen. It will highlight some of the pathways and tools that can be used to create opportunities for the ‘good life’.
Making Change
A one day workshop
This participatory workshop is for parents and relatives who are looking to enhance their advocacy skills in seeking to promote the rights and interests of children and adults with developmental disability. It is the organisation’s key advocacy related workshop.
Creating a Positive Future
A one day seminar
This seminar helps families understand and overcome the barriers created by society’s poor values and attitudes to people with developmental disability
The aim of the workshop is:
*to empower you to gain a good quality life for people with developmental disability;
*to introduce a framework by which you can understand more about why society treats people with disability the way it does;
*to provide ideas that you can use to bring about change;
*to inspire you to pursue further information about these issues.
Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends have all attended this event.
Creating a Positive Future is known as a values-based workshop.
