Making Things Happen

Making Things Happen is the video of a forum on "Inclusive Lives" held in Sydney in November 1995. The forum focused on creating new ways of providing individualised support to enable people with a disability to live a full life in the community. The video focuses on the presentations of two parents, Jayne Barrett and Joan Hailstone.

Joan and Jayne explain why they decided to seek individualised ways to support their daughters, what it means to them and to their daughters, their family and friends. They also explain how they went about it and how it works, as well as giving their thoughts on what they and their daughters can look forward to in the future.

The presenters:

Jayne Barrett: Jayne is the mother of Amanda. Jayne and Amanda use individualised funding to enable Amanda to be supported in the family home and to participate in typical environments during the day.

Joan Hailstone: Joan is Susan's mother and has been involved in working towards Susan having her own home and the supports she needs on a day-to-day basis to participate in her local community.

Running time: approx. 2 hours
