In 2007 Family Advocacy hosted its first national conference – The Odyssey...a journey of enrichment and possibility. Speakers travelled from overseas and from across Australia to share ideas and inspiration about what a good life can look like for people with disability as well as some suggestions about how to make it happen. It was hoped that the conference would spark ideas and set participants on a path of positive discovery.
Much has taken place since 2007. People with disability and their families increasingly have more opportunities to control the ‘what,’ ‘when’ and ‘where’ of support. These changes are exciting and have great promise but may also present us with challenges.
The Odyssey…celebrating achievements, progress and change, will again bring together local, national and international speakers who have information and stories to share about people with disability having a good life – whatever their age.
Conference Speakers
Speakers from overseas and across Australia will share real ways in which people with disability have taken control of their lives; how services have transformed to better meet the needs of the people supported; how families and services can work together in ‘right’ relationship; about daring to dream of high work place expectations; about people with disability studying at university; about developing community connections and about people with disability living in a home that suits them.
